Trois-Rivières Map

Yvon and I visited Trois-Rivières for an overnight stay on our way to New Brunswick on the September long weekend in 2016. We had been before, briefly, in 2004 on a trip to Quebec City, but lingered in the city only briefly. What I liked about the city on this short visit was the evidence of recent attempts of city building, like the lovely monumental staircase that leads from the waterfront to the heart of the city, and appropriate new buildings along the main street. As an older city, there is large amount of well preserved structures around, now often converted to cultural purposes. Also, on this lovely Sunday morning of a long weekend, Trifluviens were out in force, having breakfast and visiting along the patios on Rue des Forges, and it gave the city a festive air.

  • Central Trois-Rivières (121 photos) - This gallery starts on the edge of the St. Lawrence and then works its way up through the city, heading up the Escalier Monumental and then west along the Terrasse Turcot to the area around the Ursulines Monastery. This area has a lot of historical houses and buildings associated with the Catholic Church. The gallery continues into Place Pierre-Boucher, a square at the centre of the commercial city, and includes commercial views along Notre Dame and Rue des Forges. It then turns to Rue Bonaventure, and up to the Cathédrale de l'Assomption, Parc Champlain and the buildings around that, including the City Hall, and the Maison de la Culture. The gallery ends with St. James Cemetery and a few of the buildings around that.

  • Outside the centre of Trois-Rivières (35 photos) - This gallery includes those areas away from the core, though in many cases not particularly far from the centre of town. It starts with the Amphithéâtre Cogeco, where the St. Maurice and the St. Lawrence rivers meet, which recently won a Governor General's Award for Architecture. There are a few photos of the modest neighbourhood where our motel was located, then the Pont Laviolette that crosses the St. Lawrence, the Cimetière St-Louis, and the Sanctuaire Notre-Dame-Du-Cap.

  • A few Trois-Rivières photos from 2004 (5 photos) - These few photos were taken on our way to Quebec City, there are two of the Forges St-Maurice, an early industrial area which is now a historic site just north of the city, and three of St-Ann de la Perade nearby.

  • Pont Laviolette in 1982 (1 photo) - One shitty little photo taken in 1982 as I hitched my way home from the Maritimes. For years, I had no idea what this bridge was or where it was, but I figured it out after visiting in 2016.
