Calgary Map

These galleries document five trips to Calgary, from the first in 1998 when I visited Marcy there and went to the Gay Rodeo and managed to throw up on someone's head at the Calgary Stampede. Subsequent visits in 2007 when Yvon and I drove through the mountains from Vancouver to Calgary, in 2008 for Amanda's wedding, in 2012 to visit Marcy, and in 2025.  On this last visit I was happy to see that Calgarians are investing in arts infrastructure in a significant way, and that it has upped its game for architecture over the past 20 years. I loved the new Central Library and some of the new towers.

  • New Stuff in Calgary (97 photos) - I had not been to Calgary in some time so I was keen to check out new developments on a pleasant day. I started this journey on my own, as Yvon was under the weather, and specifically set out to see the Bow (I had seen it almost done, but not quite), Telus Sky and Brookfield Place, three attractive and interesting new towers. As well, I checked out the lovely Central Library and Studio Bell. The Glenbow and a new Arts Commons were under construction. I was impressed with the amount of cultural infrastructure built in Calgary over the past decade.

  • RiverWalk (53 photos) - Yvon joined me, and we strolled the entire RiverWalk, from the Elbow River, to Contemporary Calgary. I was impressed by how pretty and well designed it all seemed to be.

  • Amanda's Wedding (48 photos) - Some photos of family and friends before the wedding, and during the wedding and reception. I had a lousy position in the church for taking photos, so my photos of the actual ceremony are not very good, but I'm sure there will be many others around that will compensate for it.

  • Hanging in Calgary (25 photos) - A few photos of family and friend during my stayover in Calgary, including around Marcy's place, at Kris's, at Elmina's, and a trip to see the new building at Mount Royal College that Marcy was in charge of getting built.

  • Downtown and other (68 photos) - This is mostly photos of our walk around the downtown area on a quiet holiday Monday, including parks, buildings, markets and downtown buildings. Includes views from the Calgary Tower and many of the Stephen Avenue Walk. Also includes other shots from around the city, especially the new Alberta Children's Hospital and the University of Alberta's Child Development Centre.

  • Heritage Park (45 photos) - Photos of our day at Heritage Park, including interiors and exteriors of old buildings, some rides, and quite a few photos of Elmina, Quin, Celina, Lance and Yvon.

  • Family and friends (14 photos) - Photos of friends and family and their houses (see also Heritage Park).

  • Mountains (19 photos) - A few shots from Lake Louise, and others in Banff National Park on our way to the city.
